Gut Model
Brussels, BE
Art-Rock
Formed in 2020 by four Mons natives who had moved to the Belgian capital, Gut Model consists of: Lucas Roger (A.T.M. sniper victim, Magic Max), Paul Brynaert (A.T.M. sniper victim), Léonard Thiébaut (A.T.M. sniper victim, Lenny Pistol, Anne Seen), and Simon François (Lenny Pistol, FrontPageLeslie, Magic Max). The anxious context of the pandemic proved to be a fertile stimulus for the collective's artistic expression. After 9 months of gestation, during which about ten demos were recorded in a bedroom, Gut Model performed live for the first time at Café Central in Brussels in November 2021, an evening specially organized by the band for the release of the compilation “Jus de plaisir”. This compilation, produced on cassette format with the support of the Parisian label Dead Madam Records, brought together 14 artists from the alternative scene chosen by the members of Gut Model, with their demo “Upon Their Screams” featured as track 4. Following a few weeks of renewed lockdown, a first self-produced single, “New Tattoo”, was released in early February 2022, announcing a series of concerts across Belgium. The band performed at events such as Les Nuits Botanique, Punk Chicken Festival, and Micro Festival, but also occasionally in the capital's emblematic rock clubs (Chaff, Café Central, Superfouchette, Recyclart, etc.).
The launch of the B.U.N.K. collective project in Brussels led to the collaboration with EXAG’ Records, and their first album Spulctures was released in May 2024. This new environment, emerging from a construction site with strong socializing capacities, marked an important step as the band found a community there to support their upcoming projects. The new inspirations mobilized, ranging from 1970s progressive rock to 2000s noise rock, along with various current experimental trends, aimed to move away from the post-punk languages of the turn of the 1980s, which they had previously explored. Gut Model's music aims to contribute to a maximalist Art Rock movement that transcends eras.
Concretely, a new live formula emerged in 2024 during the band's comeback, taking the form of a cathartic tour of Hainaut. The ambition of this micro-tour stemmed from a meta-reflection on the importance of local music and the concept of “techno-feudalism,” which increasingly inspires the band.
The band returns with a new album titled Hex on us!, recorded at B.U.N.K., set for release in April 2026 on EXAG’ Records. The themes and sounds evoked intersect with ecology, the fear of technological drift, and past peasant revolts, among others. By borrowing from local history as much as indulging in speculative narratives, the album's subject matter oscillates between a pastiche of collapsology and authentic anxiety regarding current sociopolitical tensions. In short, through the use of historical metaphors touching on the feudal universe or biblical references, the lyrics address modern themes such as transhumanism, individualization, interpersonal relationships, the phenomenon of “escapism,” or the instrumentalization of nature.
